Lead Poisoning
Florida's freshwater fishes are generally considered
safe to eat. The most common advisory issued in Florida
by the
Department of Health for freshwater fishes deals
with mercury. In addition, the Environmental Protection
Agency has recommended guidelines for handling lead,
such as in lead sinkers. Pesticide or other related
health advisories that impact fish are also issued from
the Department of Health. The "Orlando Sentinel" has
covered the Lake Apopka pesticide story, and several
scientific reports have been written articles about it
and especially the impact on
alligator reproduction. |
